Lismore is located where the N72 road crosses the River Blackwater. In the 7th century, Lismore was the site of the well-known Lismore Abbey. It is also home to Lismore Castle, the birth place to the "Father of Chemistry" Sir Robert Boyle (of Boyle's Law). A medieval manuscript, the Book of Lismore (now in England - the owner of the castle is an Englishman), and the Lismore Crozier (now in the National Museum of Ireland) were discovered there in the 19th century.
