Some suggestions of places to visit in the region Parkes Castle >The castle is situated on the shores of Lough Gill, not far from Dromahair, Co. Leitrim. Parke's Castle is an early 17th. Century manor-house and bawn (enclosed yard) with towers on the angles. Dooney Rock >The Holy Well at Tobernault is located about three miles south east of Sligo Town, near a small pier on the shores of Lough Gill. It is set in rocky cliffs and surrounded by woodlands. Fed by the spring well a stream of crystal clear water flows into Lough Gill. The Tobernalt Holy Well is visited by locals and tourists throughout the year. William Butler Yeats >Poetry lovers are invited to walk in the footsteps of W. B. Yeats, as County Sligo has many places dedicated to his memory. Lissadell >Lissadell House, Drumcliff, Co. Sligo North of Rosses Point, across Drumcliffe Channel, near the village of Carney lies the beautiful Lissadell area. Lissadell House was built by Sir Robert Gore-Booth 170 years ago, but the Gore-Booth family has lived in the area for more than 400 years. The once vast estates, totalling more than 32,000 acres, have shrunk to just 400 acres. The House has associations with the poet W.B. Yeats and was the family home of Irish patriot Constance Gore-Booth-Markievicz (1868-1927) Strandhill is a lively coastal village situated about 5 miles west of Sligo City between the Atlantic Ocean and the slopes of towering Knocknarea Mountain. There are several miles of golden sandy beach and some gigantic sand dunes to explore! The village is noted as a location for unforgetable views of Atlantic sunsets. It is an unspoilt and friendly holiday resort. Strandhill's hight Atlantic surges provide some of the best surfing in Europe and it is an International Surfing Championship venue.
