Book accommodation online for Gougane Barra Hotel at Irelandin1.com - your one stop shop for accommodation in Cork and for hotels in Ireland
The Gougane Barra Hotel is situated by the Shore of Gougane Barra Lake and enjoys an impressive panorama all around. This is due to its location in an unspoilt corrie valley among the mountains of Cork and Kerry, which provides the source for the River Lee. The hotel has been in the hands of the Cronin and Lucey family for generations. It was originally built by James Cronin on the site of a hunting and fishing lodge. The English Gentry used this lodge in the Nineteenth Century until it was passed onto the Cronin Family at the turn of the century. Much has changed since then, but the Cronin & Lucey Family still provide fine hospitality along with an atmosphere of good comfort and home based cooking to all those who pass through its doors.
The hotel offers a number of splendid rooms with scenery of the lake nearby and the valley and mountains behind. All rooms are en–suite, have phone, television and tea service. Room types include single, double, twin and triple.
Gougane Barra, lying in a Corrie type Valley between the Derrynasaggart and Shehy Mountain Ranges, is 1.25 Miles (2KM) on the L4643 from the main route (R584), which runs between the towns of Macroom (N22) and Bantry (N71) in the county of Cork.

Gougane Barra Lake (or Loch Irce as it was known in older times) is home to a large stock of native Brown Trout. Evidence of this large stock can be seen in the early hours of a summer's morning or late in the evening from the dining room of Gougane Barra Hotel as the trout rise to catch the fly. The fishing of the lake is managed by Gougane Barra Angling Club, which was set up in the early nineties. The aim of the Angling Club is promote fishing, especially to the youth, and organise competitions annually which will help to make angling a more popular sport.
