Galway Hotels & Information

County Galway is situated on the west coast of Ireland, with Mayo to the north, Roscommon and Offaly to the northeast and east and Clare and Tipperary to the south. Galway stretches from Ballinasloe in the Midlands all the way to the Atlantic Coast. There is an excellent choice of hotels and B&B accommodation throughout Galway.

Lough Corrib divides Galway into two contrasting regions. In the west is the wild, coastline of Connemara, where many of the locals speak Irish as their main language and much of the ancient Gaelic culture is preserved. This is a region of beautiful scenery and landscapes, dominated by the Rocky Mountain range known as the Twelve Bens. The east of Galway is mostly farmland.

Connemara National Park covers some 2,000 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths and grassland and is located in the heart of the West of Ireland,. The development of the Connemara landscape over 10,000 years can be seen in the visitor centre.

The Aran Islands lie thirty miles off the Connemara coast. Formed from a limestone ridge, their stunning coastal views and prehistoric stone forts are well worth a visit.

The historic and lively city of Galway, thought to be Europe's fasting growing city, lies south of Lough Corrib. Galway is an excellent place to visit, with plenty of shops, hotels, continental-style cafes, fine restaurants and great bars where you can socialise or listen to live traditional Irish music.
